Benefits of Galvanized Coil
Protection
Galvanised coating is considered as one of the toughest coatings available in the market. It offers protection offers resistance from mechanical damage that may happen during transit or erection of the structure. Additionally, it protects steel from rust and corrosion. Adding into it, it is suitable for all weather conditions, so weather change does not affect the steel.
Durability
Since it protects steel from rust, corrosion, and weather conditions, chances of steel getting damaged are lesser. This results in longer life span.
Low-maintenance
Galvanised steel parts and structures need low maintenance. As a result, your efforts on maintenance are saved.
Cost-efficient
The initial cost of galvanised steel may be high. However, you save on maintenance and repair cost as it is a low-maintenance product. Additionally, coating offers durability. Therefore, it turns out to be cost effective in longer run.

Galvanized steel coil types
There are essentially two types of galvanized steel coils based on the zinc coating process:
Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Coils
The most popular and commonly utilized form of galvanized steel coils. Steel coils are immersed in a bath of molten zinc during the hot-dip galvanizing process, which establishes a metallurgical bond with the steel surface. This results in a thick and long-lasting zinc coating with exceptional corrosion resistance. Hot-dip galvanized steel coils are well-known for their rust-resistant properties and are widely employed in a variety of sectors.
Electro-Galvanized Steel Coils
Electrolysis is used to apply a thin layer of zinc to steel coils during the electro-galvanizing process. Electro-galvanizing, unlike hot-dip galvanizing, does not require immersion in molten zinc. When opposed to hot-dip galvanized coils, electro-galvanized steel coils have a thinner zinc covering. They have modest corrosion resistance and are frequently employed in applications where a lighter coating is enough or a smooth and consistent look is needed.

Building and Construction: Widely used in roofing, siding, gutters, and decking, galvanized steel offers protection against rust even in harsh outdoor conditions.
Automotive Industry: Essential for manufacturing vehicle panels, chassis parts, and other components due to its impact resistance and rust prevention qualities.
Appliances: Provides sturdy support and rust protection for appliances like refrigerators and washing machines.
Storage Systems: Ideal for shelving, containers, and cabinets, offering durability for both indoor and outdoor use.
Infrastructure: Used in lamp posts, railings, and bollards due to its resistance to corrosion in moist or polluted environments.
Manufacturing Process
Surface Preparation
The journey begins with the preparation of the steel substrate. Raw steel coils are subjected to a thorough cleaning process to remove any contaminants, such as rust, oil, or dirt, from the surface. This preparation ensures optimal adhesion of the zinc coating that will be applied in subsequent steps.
Galvanizing Bath
Once cleaned, the steel coils are immersed in a bath of molten zinc. This step, known as hot-dip galvanizing, is pivotal to the process. The zinc bath is maintained at a high temperature to ensure proper metallurgical bonding between the zinc and the steel. This metallurgical bond enhances the durability and longevity of the resulting galvanized steel.
Alloying and Solidification
As the steel coils are withdrawn from the galvanizing bath, excess molten zinc drips off, leaving behind a layer of zinc that adheres to the steel surface. During this phase, alloying may occur between the zinc and the steel, further enhancing the bond between the two materials. The zinc layer solidifies on the steel substrate, forming the protective coating.
Cooling and Inspection
The galvanized steel coils are then cooled, allowing the zinc coating to fully solidify and bond to the steel. After cooling, the coils undergo thorough inspection to ensure uniformity of the coating thickness and its adherence to the steel. This inspection is crucial to ensuring that the final product meets the required quality standards.
Post-Treatment (Optional)
Depending on the intended application and desired characteristics, galvanized steel coils may undergo additional treatments. One common post-treatment is passivation, which involves applying a chemical solution to the zinc coating to enhance its corrosion resistance. Additionally, a topcoat may be applied for aesthetic purposes or to provide additional protection against specific environmental factors.
Surface Treatment
Surface treatment of galvanized steel coils is an important aspect of the production process, as it enhances the corrosion resistance and appearance of the final product, as well as its suitability for painting or further processing. Here are some common surface treatments applied to galvanized steel coils:
Passivation (Chromate Coating): A passivation layer, often a chromate-based solution, is applied to the surface to enhance corrosion resistance. This layer helps to prevent the formation of white rust during storage and handling. Non-chromate passivation solutions are also used for environmental reasons.
Oiling: A thin layer of oil is applied to the surface to prevent rusting during storage and transport. The oil provides a barrier against moisture and contaminants.
Phosphate Treatment: This involves applying a phosphate chemical to create a layer that improves paint adhesion and increases corrosion resistance.
Anti-fingerprint Treatment: A nano-coating is applied to the surface to resist fingerprints and smudges, which is particularly useful for products that will be handled during installation or used in appliances.
